The National Air and Space Museum was created so that people that go to the capital can visit it and learn information about all types of aircrafts. The Museum is a self –guided museum that has a huge amount of variety. It was built in the capital because it’s the heart of USA and because all the other Smithsonian Institution Museums were build there and even in the same street. It was mostly made to honor to Paul Garber. He is called the heart of the Smithsonian aviation collection.

He donated an impressive amount of money and of aircrafts. I believe it was also created to honor all the people that created an aircraft or that flew one. I believe US honors them because they made a huge change in the world.
The building of the Air and Space Museum is really close to The Capitol so they decided to make it simple so that it didn’t call the attention as much. Gyo Obata was the architect and he based on St.Louis structures. He designed the museum as four marble cubes connected by three steel and glass cubes. It uses the same pink Tennessee marble that the National Gallery uses. It was build by Gilbane Building Company. The Museum was finished in 1976. It has a west glass huge window that is actually used as a door to get in big airplanes. The first Museum was actually finished in 1918 by the name of National Air Museum. Compared to the structures that are in the mall, the Air and Space Museum is a really modern and simple building. Money is based on donations or money given by The Congress. Aircrafts are rarely bought most of the time they are donated by the NASA or the airline.

As I already mentioned, the Air and Space Museum honors all of the people that died or that were an important part of the evolution of aircrafts and things related to the space. I believe all these people are honored because imagine wanting to go to Europe and the only way to do it was by car. We wouldn’t really know about the planets the moon and everything. There are so many things about what should we be thankful for to them. In 1946 the National Air Museum was established as part of the Smithsonian Institution. In 1966 it was accepted by law for the Air Museum to add space in it. In 1972 the building in the National Mall began. In 1998 it was the first building renovation. IN 2003 the Udvar-Hazy Center opened.

Inside the Air and Space Museum, the things that most called my attention were how people flied on the first planes that were so little and with so little support. I think you could easily fall or crash in them. Something I found particularly interesting was that the Boeing that was in there looked huge but when I looked from the bottom I realized
it was actually small with space for up to 3 passengers per row and it was going to Europe. I learned many new things on the Museum that made me realize that people gave there whole lifes just to help improve the world and its technologies. When I was in there I felt really happy because I know my whole family enjoys a lot the whole airplanes and flight things so I felt I should really be there paying attention to things so I could come home and tell everyone about my trip. I liked the way the museum is organized and I never would have thought to put some aircrafts floating so that they fit inside the museum.

What called my attention in this museum was all the planes and space shuttles hanged and in the floor, used by famous people like Amelia Earhart, Neil Armstrong, and more. What I found most interesting was the fastest plane of all time, the SR-71 Blackbird. What I learned in this museum was about the history of aircraft, Apollo 11, and more about planes. I already knew that in that museum there was almost all the stuff used used by Apollo 11 in the first landing lunar mission. In this museum I felt very excited because I would like all the stuff about space and aircraft, it souns pretty interesting, the other thing is that I like science fiction movies to and in the museums store there was a lot of things about movies like Star Wars, and Star Trek which are my favorites. When I entered the museum I was thinking about all the things that a human has done for its race, all that technology done through history, like Neil Armstrong said when he set food on the Moon “That´s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".

The Udvar-Hazy Center has an aviation hangar 10 stories high, allows the museum to display its largest artifacts.
The new center was named after Steve Udvar-Hazy. He was a very successful man in the aircraft industry so he gave the National Air, and Space Museum 65 million dollars to help build the new center. One of the goals to crate this center will be to educate the children of the future about the importance of aviation.
